Another quickie, but this girl’s enormous earmuffs were just irresistible. (Which sounds a bit Carry On, but means only what it says.)
One of the great things about drawing is that you realise how little you can trust the first evidence of your own eyes. At first, I drew the earmuffs at what seemed absurdly large size. But looking again at the relative proportions, I saw that i’d underestimated them completely. It took two more stages of expansion to hit a roughly accurate size. Drawing is seeing.
The other reason to grab the iPad was that I was sure Brushes would have the perfect tool to render the fluffy look of the earmuffs. And I was right. It’s one of the things that makes Brushes fun — it’s not simply a facsimile of pencil and paper, it’s a new tool, a new way of mark-making. Exploring its possibilities is as entertaining as fiddling with the potential of a pencil.
